How to Brew Coffee with a Cloth Filter: A Step-by-Step Guide
Share
Brewing coffee with a cloth filter is a time-honored tradition in many Latin American countries, including Honduras. Known for producing a smooth, clean cup, this method is simple, sustainable, and yields a cup full of flavor.
What You'll Need:
- Freshly ground coffee (medium grind)
- Cloth filter
- Hot water (just off the boil)
- Mug or carafe
- Kettle or pot
Total brew time: 2-3 minutes
Step 1: Rinse the Filter
Rinse your cloth filter with hot water to remove any residual flavors and preheat your brewing cup
Step 2: Add Coffee
Use about 1 to 2 tablespoons of coffee per 6 ounces of water, depending on your taste
Note: This is our recommendation, but feel free to play around with it based on your taste! There is no right or wrong here. Have fun with this.
Step 3: Bloom the Grounds
Pour a small amount of hot water over the ground and let them "bloom" for 30 seconds. This releases trapped gases and enhances flavor.
Step 4: Slow Pour
Slowly pour the rest of your hot water in a circular motion over the grounds. Let it drip through naturally.
Step 5: Enjoy
Once the dripping slows, remove the filter and enjoy a smooth and rich cup of coffee!
Care Tip:
Rinse your cloth filter thoroughly after each use!
